Baseball Recap: Byron Center Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

Byron Center came out on top against Caledonia on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Bulldogs took their game against the Fighting Scots 8-4. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 3-2 win on Tuesday.

Nolan Booth and Keaton Van Kampen made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Booth pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Van Kampen tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Booth has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Booth went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Van Kampen went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Van Kampen a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Wauben, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 15 matches. Deyvi Gomez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Byron Center is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Caledonia, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Byron Center will take on Forest Hills Northern at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Caledonia, they will face off against Thornapple Kellogg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
