Baseball Game Preview: Aliso Niguel Wolverines vs. San Clemente Tritons

The Aliso Niguel Wolverines will face off against the San Clemente Tritons at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Clemente took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Aliso Niguel, who comes in off a win.

Aliso Niguel saw some tournament action on Monday. They blew past Reed 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Connor Etnire tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Aliso Niguel's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Watson, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Watson also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another was Jarett Sabol, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, San Clemente was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Summit, falling 9-3.

Aliso Niguel is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. San Clemente's loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Aliso Niguel skirted past San Clemente 2-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Aliso Niguel since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
