Baseball Recap: Gilford Triumphs

After low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, Gilford brought some dynamite into their most recent game. Everything went their way against the Somersworth Toppers on Wednesday as they made off with a 13-5 win. That's more bragging rights for the Golden Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cohen Elliott made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That hit was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Gilford let Drew Smith and Mikey Giovanditto run wild. Smith went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Giovanditto got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those hits were Smith's first of the season. Mark Uicker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Gilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Gilford's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Somersworth, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.
