Basketball Game Preview: Mountain View Spartans vs. Gunn Titans

Mountain View has gone 7-2 against Gunn recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mountain View Spartans will host the Gunn Titans at 7:45 p.m. Mountain View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season.

Last Saturday, Mountain View ended up a good deal behind Carlmont and lost 73-54. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Scots: they've now lost four in a row.

Mountain View might have lost, but man, Will Chesley was a machine: he went 8 for 11 on his way to 25 points and four steals. Those 25 points gave Chesley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Minor, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points.

Meanwhile, Gunn lost to Los Gatos at home by a 76-58 margin on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 725th, while the Wildcats are ranked 138th).

Gunn has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Mountain View, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Mountain View didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Gunn when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 57-53 win.
