Softball Game Preview: Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen vs. First Baptist Saints

The Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen are taking a road trip to face off against the First Baptist Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Garland Christian Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with ten straight defeats, while First Baptist will come in with 11 straight victories.

Meanwhile, First Baptist made easy work of Texoma Christian on Tuesday and carried off an 18-6 win. Fans of the Saints have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

The team relied heavily on Camila Rodriguez, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolbie Gillispie, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4.

First Baptist always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

First Baptist pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 13.3 runs thus far. As for Garland Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Garland Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .540. However, it's not like First Baptist struggles in that department as they've averaged .667. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
