Polytechnic is 1-9 against Mayfield since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Cubs at 3:30 p.m. Polytechnic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Polytechnic duked it out with South Pasadena on Saturday. The Panthers took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Amelia Shih was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Shih wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ellery Engstrom, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Mayfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 9-3 to Rio Hondo Prep.

Mayfield's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6-2. As for Polytechnic, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Polytechnic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Mayfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Polytechnic couldn't quite finish off Mayfield when the teams last played back in March and fell 8-6. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
