Softball Recap: Jim Thorpe Olympians vs. Northern Lehigh Bulldogs
Jim Thorpe had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-18 to make it six. They fell 16-11 to the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 back in April.
Hannah Zacharias made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Ryah Confer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
As for Northern Lehigh, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
On Northern Lehigh's side, Addison Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and seven unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks. Smith has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tegan Simms was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriana Danyluk, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jim Thorpe will venture away from home to square off against Lehighton at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Olympians are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Northern Lehigh, they will head out to take on East Stroudsburg North at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
