National Cathedral has gone 7-2 against Jackson-Reed recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. National Cathedral will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Thursday, then bounced right back against Maret on Wednesday. National Cathedral blew past Maret 15-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory National Cathedral has posted against Maret since April 20, 2017.
Ryan Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Walker was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, National Cathedral let Talia Schvimmer and Viola Sinbondit run wild. Schvimmer went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Sinbondit went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two doubles gave Schvimmer a new career-high. Caroline Walsh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
National Cathedral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maret only posted an OBP of .143.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Jackson-Reed's offense. They lost 15-0 to Potomac School on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
National Cathedral pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Jackson-Reed, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-7-1 record.
Everything went National Cathedral's way against Jackson-Reed in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as National Cathedral made off with a 16-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for National Cathedral since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
