Softball Game Preview: Riverdale Warriors vs. Forrest Rockets

The Riverdale Warriors will head out to take on the Forrest Rockets at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverdale is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Riverdale is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Munster, who was ranked ninth in their home state at the time (Riverdale was ranked 23rd). The Warriors never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory on Wednesday.

Mackenzie Ventura made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avayah Wallace, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Forrest, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Loretto on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rockets needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

The win got Forrest back to even at 6-6. As for Riverdale, their record now sits at 11-6.

Everything went Riverdale's way against Forrest when the teams last played back in March, as Riverdale made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
