Preview: Clarkdale Bulldogs vs. Newton Tigers
Clarkdale has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Newton Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Clarkdale was handed a 28-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Lake on Tuesday. Clarkdale sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-54 win over Lake. The victory was just what Clarkdale needed coming off of a 91-63 loss in their prior match.
Clarkdale can attribute much of their success to Connor Mcdill, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, and Cade Culpepper, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Culpepper has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ladonya Adams, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Newton had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They breezed by Clarkdale on the road to the tune of 91-63. Newton's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
The win got Clarkdale back to even at 12-12. As for Newton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
Clarkdale was dealt a bruising 91-63 defeat at the hands of Newton in their previous matchup on Friday. Can Clarkdale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
