Basketball Recap: Socorro Warriors vs. Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers
Socorro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 56-41 fall against the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers.
Mesilla Valley Christian School had a senior duo take command as Nevaeh Benjamin dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds and Katey Black posted 16 points and three steals. Benjamin also set a new season-high mark in steals with seven. Another player making a difference was Lillian Balizan, who put up ten points and eight rebounds.
Socorro's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Socorro will take on Valley in a tournament on Thursday. Socorro is facing Valley at the right time seeing as Valley is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they will head out on the road to take on Hot Springs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hot Springs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Mesilla Valley Christian School surely won't give up without a fight.
