Softball Game Preview: Lutheran North Mustangs vs. Utica Eisenhower Eagles

The Lutheran North Mustangs will head out to take on the Utica Eisenhower Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lutheran North has nine straight wins, Utica Eisenhower has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Lutheran North didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They beat St. Ursula Academy on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 21-7. Considering the Mustangs have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dakota hit Utica Eisenhower with a five-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Cougars, falling 11-0.

Lutheran North's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Utica Eisenhower, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Lutheran North suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Utica Eisenhower when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
