Preview: Bayfield Wolverines vs. Pagosa Springs Pirates
Bayfield is 1-9 against Pagosa Springs since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bayfield Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Bayfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Pagosa Springs is ranked 21st).
Last Tuesday, Bayfield suffered a tough 65-43 defeat at the hands of Centauri.
Bayfield's defeat came about despite a quality game from Lincoln Williams, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Williams is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Ross, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.6 points), and they went ahead and made it 17 on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-43 win over Mancos.
Bayfield's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Pagosa Springs, they pushed their record up to 18-1 with that win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Bayfield was taken down by Pagosa Springs 71-31 in their previous meeting back in January. Can Bayfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
