Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Cam Waller and Elias Johnson Lead East Marion to Victory

There's no place like home for East Marion, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 30-12 win over the Hazlehurst Indians on Friday. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 15-8 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Leading East Marion to victory were Elias Johnson and Cam Waller. Johnson rushed for 87 yards and two scores on only nine carries, while Waller gained 96 total yards and a touchdown. Waller's longest rush was for an impressive 66 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Despite the loss, Hazlehurst saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brandon Haines rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.7 yards per carry.

The win got East Marion back to even at 1-1.

East Marion has already played their next match, a 54-16 defeat against Tylertown on the 12th. As for Hazlehurst, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-6 victory against Natchez on the 12th.
