Basketball Recap: Riley Holloway's Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly over Gillespie

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The contest between them and the Gillespie Miners didn't end well, with the New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers falling 58-42. While losing is never fun, the Vipers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Miners are ranked 130th).

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Riley Holloway, who posted 11 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Callie Wagner, who earned 13 points and four steals.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Gillespie, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 43-29 victory against Lincolnwood on the 27th. As for Gillespie, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-37 defeat against Carlinville on the 27th.
