Recap: Clayton Comets vs. Willow Spring Storm
The Clayton Comets had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.7 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 49-6 victory over Willow Spring. Clayton's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
When it comes to explaining why Willow Spring lost, one person who can't be blamed is Laden Beckwith. Despite the final result, he picked up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown. Beckwith was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 64 yards.
Clayton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-7 Corinth Holders and 3-6 Willow Spring (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.9% over those games). As for Willow Spring, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Clayton will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. Cleveland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 324 points over their last seven matchups. As for Willow Spring, they will head out on the road to face off against Fuquay - Varina at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
