Basketball Recap: Foothill Tech Takes a Loss

Foothill Tech dropped down to 8-2 on Saturday, ending the team's seven-game streak of wins. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to the Buena Bulldogs. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Dragons came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 831st).

Despite the loss, Foothill Tech still got an impressive performance from Ashton Brown, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. The game was Brown's third in a row with at least 15 points. Nick Turner was another key player, putting up six points along with six rebounds and five steals.

As for Buena, they pushed their record up to 4-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points over those games.

Buena's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rook Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Johnson, who posted seven points and six boards.

Foothill Tech wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-60 win against Fillmore on the 17th. As for Buena, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 92-51 loss against Santa Barbara on the 16th.
