Basketball Recap: Hoover Takes a Loss

Hoover was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Patrick Henry Patriots. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-45 back in January.

Patrick Henry's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaac Weatherred led the charge by going 7 of 13 en route to 17 points. That's the most points Weatherred has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alexander Newlands, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 19 boards.

Hoover's defeat dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Patrick Henry, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-16.

Hoover and Patrick Henry could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Hoover will take on Sage Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 471 places (657 vs. 186). Meanwhile, Patrick Henry (ranked 592nd) will meet Christian (ranked 168th) at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
