The Silverado Skyhawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Clark Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Silverado will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Silverado is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Cheyenne: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Skyhawks blew the Desert Shields out of the water with a 57-6 final score. Considering the Skyhawks have won seven games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dillon Elliott produced another solid performance rushing for 15 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also throwing for 105 yards and one TD. Clemente Jones was another key player, rushing for 35 yards.
Silverado's run defense was locked in: Cheyenne could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Brandon Belyeu for the heroic effort on defense: he. Silverado didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.9.
Silverado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Banks Delima and Josiah Rodriguez. Rodriguez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Clark got themselves on the board against Bonanza on Friday, but Bonanza never followed suit. They enjoyed a cozy 14-0 victory over the Bengals.
Clark found their leader in sophomore Felix Romero, who rushed for 201 yards while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one score. Romero's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 109 rushing yards.
Silverado's record now sits at 8-1. As for Clark, their record is now 6-3.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Silverado has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Clark struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 201.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Silverado against Clark when the teams last played back in October of 2019, as the squad secured a 51-20 win. In that game, the Skyhawks amassed a halftime lead of 34-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
