Football Recap: Eaglecrest Raptors vs. Regis Jesuit Raiders

Eaglecrest and Regis Jesuit squared off in some playoff action on Sunday, but Eaglecrest had to settle for second. They were dealt a 45-14 defeat at the hands of the Regis Jesuit Raiders. The Raptors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Loss or not, Eaglecrest got some senior leadership from Burke Withycombe and Joe Steiner. Withycombe picked up 121 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Steiner threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Withycombe got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 84 yards. A healthy portion of Steiner's aerial production (88 yards to be exact) also went to Quincy Clayton, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Regis Jesuit found their leader in freshman Luke Rubley, who threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Benjamin Bacon helped Rubley out on the ground, rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Eaglecrest is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6. As for Regis Jesuit, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Eaglecrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Regis Jesuit, they will face off against Valor Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Valor Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.
