Hampshire took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Crystal Lake Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Whip-Purs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers on Wednesday, sneaking past 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Whip-Purs sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Joseph Rodriguez looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Hampshire saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Kolder, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Hampshire pushed their record up to 25-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Crystal Lake Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-19-1.

Hampshire will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tigers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
