Basketball Recap: Central Now 12-3 over Last 15 Games

It's playoff time, and Central had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 83-80 win over the Blacksburg Wildcats on Tuesday.

It was another big night for Demetrius Myers, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 13 boards. Those 33 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tazhir Webber, who posted 19 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blacksburg only one offensive board.

Blacksburg's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Federico, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 assists. Federico is becoming a predictor of Blacksburg's success: when he posts at least eight assists the team is 3-1 (and 5-14 when he doesn't). Cameron Cobb was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

Central is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.9 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Blacksburg and nudges their season record down to 8-15.

Central has already played their next game, a 68-53 victory against Strom Thurmond on the 21st. Blacksburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
