Baseball Recap: Pike Road Comes Up Short

Pike Road fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Central on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 4-3. The Patriots have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Brandt Springer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Pike Road saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quinton Robinson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Pike Road's defeat dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pike Road will face off against Russell County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Central, they will take on Smiths Station at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
