Baseball Recap: Gilbert Christian Extends Road Winning Streak to Six

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Gilbert Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Northwest Christian Crusaders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since March 25th.

Gilbert Christian got a great performance from Caleb Johnson as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Johnson has posted over his last four games.

On the hitting side, Gilbert Christian let Tyler Burr and Dane Coyle run wild. Burr went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Coyle scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Coyle is becoming a predictor of Gilbert Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Camden Pallas was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Gilbert Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Gilbert Christian pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.3 runs. As for Northwest Christian, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 14-6.

Coming up, Gilbert Christian will square off against Seton Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northwest Christian, they will face off against Bourgade Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
