Softball Game Preview: Pembroke Dragons vs. Holley Hawks

Pembroke is a perfect 3-0 against Holley since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dragons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pembroke has three straight victories, Holley has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Pembroke barely beat Alexander the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Trojans on Monday. Considering the Dragons have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jayden Hootman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Hootman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Reagan Schneider was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Juliana Cleveland was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Pembroke hit Holley with a ten-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks came up short against the Dragons, falling 14-1.

Holley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Pembroke, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.

Everything went Pembroke's way against Holley in their previous meeting on Friday, as Pembroke made off with a 14-1 victory. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
