Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Unatego

Unatego won the last time they faced Bainbridge-Guilford and things went their way on Saturday too. The Unatego Spartans managed a 36-32 victory over the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Bobcats are ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bainbridge-Guilford's loss came despite strong showings from Peyton Umbra and Jayslin Henderson. Umbra went 5 of 11 on her way to 15 points, while Henderson posted ten points. Umbra continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

The win was the fourth in a row for Unatego, bringing their record for this year to 11-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Bainbridge-Guilford, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Unatego has already played their next match (against Deposit-Hancock), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bainbridge-Guilford will take on Sidney at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Sidney will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Bainbridge-Guilford surely won't give up without a fight.
