Basketball Recap: Galena Takes a Loss

Galena lost against Spanish Springs back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Galena Grizzlies had to suffer through a 65-29 loss at the hands of the Spanish Springs Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Cougars are ranked fourth).

Galena's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Turner, who posted seven points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Anderson, who put up ten points and seven boards.

Spanish Springs found their leader in sophomore Aaliyah Vance, who went 8 of 16 en route to 20 points and four steals. Vance is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Hollenback, who had eight points.

Galena has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Spanish Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Galena has already played their next contest, a 45-29 loss against Douglas on the 28th. As for Spanish Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 50-39 victory against Bishop Manogue on the 28th.
