Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Academy Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Cornerstone Charter Academy can now relate to. They fell just short of the Foundation Academy Lions by a score of 62-59 on Wednesday. The match was a 30-30 toss-up at halftime, but the Ducks couldn't quite close it out.

Cornerstone Charter Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Wood, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points along with eight assists and six boards. That's the most points Wood has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Derick Augustin, who went 9 for 22 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds.

Josh Mercado had an outrageously good game for Foundation Academy as he almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Riley Michels, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks.

With the defeat, Cornerstone Charter Academy broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-12. As for Foundation Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Cornerstone Charter Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Foundation Academy, they will challenge Santa Fe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Fe Catholic will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Foundation Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
