Peyton is a perfect 10-0 against Calhan since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Panthers will host the Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. Peyton will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Peyton needed a bit of extra time to put away Limon. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Badgers, sneaking past 11-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this matchup were averaging 3.88 runs allowed.
Bryce Compton was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryce Love was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Calhan can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Trinidad.
Like Peyton, Calhan also got a great game from a two-way player: Liam Metzger. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Metzger posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Calhan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-14-2 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Johnson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Wyatt Crippen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples and one run.
Peyton pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Calhan, their win bumped their record up to 4-14-2.
Calhan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Peyton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. It's a different story for Calhan, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Peyton's hitters?
Everything went Peyton's way against Calhan in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Peyton made off with a 27-0 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
