Menlo School had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Santa Clara Bruins on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on 12 straight.
Jackson Flanagan looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Zach Roeder, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May.
Menlo School's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Santa Clara, the defeat snapped their winning streak at 20 games and leaves them with a 29-4 record.
As of now, neither Menlo School nor the Bruins have any future games scheduled.
