Softball Game Preview: Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy Tigers vs. Vandebilt Catholic Terriers

The Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy Tigers will take on the Vandebilt Catholic Terriers in a tournament on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Bourgeois 14-3.

Ashtyn Rogers made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Williamson, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyvia Palmisano, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Vandebilt Catholic faced Hahnville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Vandebilt Catholic put the hurt on Hahnville with a sharp 16-6 victory. The Terriers have beaten the Tigers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.

Patrick Taylor Science & Tech Academy pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Vandebilt Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
