Softball Game Preview: South Pittsburg Pirates vs. North Jackson Chiefs

The South Pittsburg Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the North Jackson Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Pittsburg will be strutting in after a victory while North Jackson will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, South Pittsburg turned things around against Grundy County on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Yellowjackets a 6-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Kaylee Kilgore's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, South Pittsburg's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Stalyon, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Those two hits gave Stalyon a new career-high. Kynleigh Rice was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, North Jackson came up short against Pisgah on Monday, falling 11-1. The Chiefs haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

South Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for North Jackson, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-18.

South Pittsburg was able to grind out a solid win over North Jackson in their previous matchup on April 2nd, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
