Softball Recap: Rio Hondo Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Rio Hondo proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 18) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Raymondville Bearkats 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bobcats have posted since February 10th.

Madison Lopez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Danielle Rocha was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Abigail Atkinson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Rio Hondo's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Raymondville, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 7-13 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Hondo will square off against La Feria at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Raymondville, they will face off against Progreso at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearkats are facing the Red Ants at the right time seeing as the Red Ants are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
