Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Falls Despite Big Games from Alex Treglia and Cayden Cooper

Cheyenne Mountain has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to the Lutheran Lions at home by a 76-62 margin on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (61), the Red-Tailed Hawks still had to take the loss.

Cheyenne Mountain's loss came despite strong showings from Cayden Cooper and Alex Treglia. Cooper went 8 for 12 en route to 24 points and five steals, while Treglia posted 21 points and seven rebounds. Treglia continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Larner, who earned five points.

Kade Speckman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lutheran, dropping a double-double on 32 points and ten boards. Speckman's evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Owen Oldenburg was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Cheyenne Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Lutheran, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Cheyenne Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-45 victory against Niwot on the 18th. As for Lutheran, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-59 win against Palmer Ridge on the 22nd.
