The Kennedy Cougars will take on the Moorpark Musketeers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
If Kennedy beats Moorpark with ten runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cougars came out on top against Cleveland by a score of 10-6 on Wednesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Aubrie Rodriguez tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Leah Magallanes was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Alina Ortiz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Moorpark entered their tilt with Oak Park on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 17-4 win. The Musketeers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by seven runs or more this season.
Kiley Finnerty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Sydney Burckhard was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-6. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathalie Hernandez, who went 4-for-5 with one home run and six RBI.
Moorpark always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Park only posted an OBP of .375.
Moorpark pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Kennedy couldn't quite get it done against Moorpark when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 8-3. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
