Basketball Recap: University Wildcats vs. Sylmar Spartans

While University didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Sylmar Spartans by a score of 66-54 on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2017.

Leading University to victory were Orpheu Cummings and Jonah Hansen. Cummings went 10 for 12 on his way to 24 points and five steals, while Hansen dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. That's the most points Hansen has posted since back in January of 2024. Joey Mendoza was another key player, putting up eight points.

University was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sylmar only posted two assists.

University has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Sylmar, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

University will face off against Palisades at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sylmar, they will take on North Hollywood at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in North Hollywood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
