Volleyball Recap: Grace Academy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Clear Spring

Grace Academy faced Clear Spring in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Knights fell just short of the Blazers by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Knights' first of the season.

Grace Academy started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 22-25, 19-25, 28-26, 25-20, 15-9.

Ahalya Vemuri paced Grace Academy's offense, picking up 19 kills. Vemuri got some help from Avani Vemuri and her 33 assists. Finally, Aubrey Barnhart kept Grace Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Clear Spring was led to victory by Hannah Vong and Kaisy Custer. Vong had nine digs and one assist, while Custer had 20 kills and 19 digs. Custer has been hot, having posted six or more kills the last eight times she's played.

Having lost for the first time this season, Grace Academy fell to 11-1. As for Clear Spring, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Grace Academy has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Bishop Walsh on the 23rd. As for Clear Spring, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Boonsboro on the 24th.
