Football Game Preview: Pittsburg Pirates vs. North Lamar Panthers

The Pittsburg Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the North Lamar Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Friday, Pittsburg came up short against Gilmer and fell 36-25. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Buckeyes: they've now lost seven in a row.

Kord Johnson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 219 yards and two TDs, and also punched in one score on the ground. Another big playmaker for Pittsburg was Camdyn Doddy, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Pittsburg didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Na'Kaidrien Chalmers and Kevin Johnson. Chalmers is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, North Lamar had to suffer through a 77-7 loss at the hands of Pleasant Grove. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 853rd, while the Hawks are ranked 52nd).

North Lamar's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Pittsburg, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 4-2.

Pittsburg strolled past North Lamar when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 37-22. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
