Preview: Alleghany Trojans vs. South Stokes Sauras
Alleghany is 0-5 against South Stokes since December of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Alleghany Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the South Stokes Sauras at 6:30 p.m. Alleghany is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Alleghany was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 37-31 to Mount Airy. Alleghany has not had much luck with Mount Airy recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the loss, Alleghany saw an underclassman step up: Elizabeth Collins scored nine points along with 14 rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Paula Martinez, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Even though South Stokes has not done well against Starmount recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. South Stokes escaped with a win against Starmount by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. The team accrued 46 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.
Alleghany dropped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for South Stokes, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.
