Basketball Recap: Benedictine Takes a Loss

Benedictine lost against Gilmour Academy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Benedictine Bengals lost to the Gilmour Academy Lancers at home by a 69-54 margin. While losing is never fun, the Bengals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Lancers are ranked 117th).

Despite the defeat, Benedictine saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gio Ramos dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ramos has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bryce Meitin, who posted nine points.

Benedictine has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Gilmour Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benedictine will welcome Fairview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Benedictine is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season. As for Gilmour Academy, they will take on Brecksville-Broadview Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
