Baseball Game Preview: Centennial Chargers vs. Tolono Unity Rockets

The Centennial Chargers will head out to face off against the Tolono Unity Rockets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Centennial will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

On Friday, Centennial made easy work of Danville and carried off a 17-2 victory.

Cal Meyers was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Centennial: the team is 9-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ty Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

St. Joseph-Ogden hit Tolono Unity with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rockets came up short against the Spartans, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Rockets were not able to get on the board.

This is the second loss in a row for Tolono Unity and nudges their season record down to 14-10. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 11-13.

Centennial suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to Tolono Unity in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
