Softball Recap: University Has No Trouble Against Laguna Hills

University hadn't done well against Laguna Hills recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 15-1 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Carson Cruz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Amela Hoang was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Sienna Gillen was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .784. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laguna Hills only posted an OBP of .250.

University is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Laguna Hills, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coming up, University will face off against Rosary Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royals will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. Laguna Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
