The Geneva Knights will face off against the Calvary Christian Academy Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Geneva's favor as the team sits on 11 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Calvary Christian Academy has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
While Geneva's win against Legacy Charter wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Geneva came out on top in a nail-biter against Legacy Charter on Friday, sneaking past 9-8. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Tyson Hilliard was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Luke Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy came up short against Warner Christian Academy on Friday and fell 7-4.
Joel Gornto and Cruze McLean were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. Throwing, Gornto struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McLean pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gornto has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gornto scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while McLean went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI were McLean's first of the season.
In other batting news, Logan Kitzke made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.
Calvary Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Geneva, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Calvary Christian Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Geneva hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Calvary Christian Academy, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Geneva's hitters?
