Baseball Recap: Tehachapi Comes Up Short

Tehachapi extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Tulare Western Mustangs. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

As for Tulare Western, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Tulare Western's part, Omar Cortez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Cortez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Tulare Western is undefeated when Gonzalez posts two or more runs, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Easton Powell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Tehachapi will challenge East Bakersfield at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tulare Western, they will face off against Independence at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
