Basketball Recap: Livingston's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

After losing to Newark Central the last time they met, Livingston decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Livingston Lancers took down the Newark Central Blue Devils 56-38 on Saturday. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Newark Central lost, don't look at Youssef Fofana. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Fofana a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ibrahim Shareef, who posted three points.

The win made it two in a row for Livingston and bumps their season record up to 13-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points over those games. As for Newark Central, they dropped their record down to 5-15 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Livingston will take on West Essex at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newark Central, they will face off against East Side at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
