Soccer Game Preview: Sumter vs. Gray Collegiate Academy

The Sumter Gamecocks will venture away from home to face off against the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Sumter's offense. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Florence on Monday. That's two games in a row now that Sumter have lost by exactly two goals.

Meanwhile, Gray Collegiate Academy had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Bearcats. Gray Collegiate Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by three goals or more this season.

Gray Collegiate Academy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those seven games. As for Sumter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-13.

Sumter suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Gray Collegiate Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Gamecocks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
