Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Avalon's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Avalon's tournament run continued when they took on Don Bosco Cristo Rey on Friday. The Avalon Black Knights strolled past the Don Bosco Cristo Rey Wolfpack with points to spare, taking the game 87-68. Given the Black Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Wolfpack are ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Avalon found their leader in freshman Jordan Fox, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 37 points along with seven steals and six boards. Fox's afternoon made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Toran Ayana, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Avalon is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.8 points over those games. Don Bosco Cristo Rey is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Avalon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 88-66 win against Paul Public Charter International on the 1st. Don Bosco Cristo Rey does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
