Basketball Recap: San Juan Diego Catholic's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

San Juan Diego Catholic's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the San Marcos Academy Bears by a score of 69-57. The victory was some much needed relief for the Saints as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

San Juan Diego Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mateo Aceves led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds Aceves has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan McCormick, who went 9 for 14 on his way to 25 points.

San Juan Diego Catholic's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 14-9. As for San Marcos Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

San Juan Diego Catholic will venture away from home to take on Keystone at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for San Marcos Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 90-20 defeat against Live Oak Classical on the 24th.
