Baseball Game Preview: Hammond Baptist Swordsmen vs. Hammond Central Wolves

The Hammond Baptist Swordsmen will face off against the Hammond Central Wolves at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Hammond Baptist's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Hammond Central has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.

Hammond Baptist barely beat East Chicago Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Swordsmen never let the Cardinals get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory last Friday. The result was nothing new for the Swordsmen, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wolves on Friday. Hammond Central lost 14-5 to Michigan City.

Hammond Central saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Santiago, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Santiago is becoming a predictor of Hammond Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-14-1 when he doesn't).

Hammond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15-1. As for Hammond Baptist, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
