Recap: Yulee Hornets vs. Hilliard Red Flashes
If the Yulee Hornets were riding high off their 61-35 takedown of the Parker Braves last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Yulee received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 76-57 to Hilliard. While losing is never fun, Yulee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while Hilliard is ranked 121st).
Despite the loss, Yulee still got an impressive performance from Jordan Austin, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Austin's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ace Walker, who scored ten points along with five assists.
Hilliard was led to victory by CJ Hall and Malcom Warthen. Hall scored 16 points, while Warthen scored 21 points. Warthen continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brandyn Seldomridge, who scored ten points.
Yulee's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Hilliard, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Yulee will be playing in front of their home fans against Fernandina Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fernandina Beach is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Hilliard, they will face off against Baldwin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Baldwin is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
